A monthly raining program that will cover all facets of the kata and kumite match. This includes covering all rules, gestures, terminology, safety protocols, ring management, score table operations, and other areas that are part of a competition match.
There will be mock Referee Exams that simulate the testing process at the national level for those who seek national certification.
Initially we will focus on kumite (sparring), then kata (forms), and then proceed to weapons.
Though the program is directed and organized for the development of the head referee and supporting judges, this information will benefit the competitor, coach, staff, and parent.
The program will be held every first Thursday and third Wednesday of the month from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM. This schedule will occasionally change due to conflicts with other events.
Next training date: February 6th and 19th
Scottsdale Martial Arts Center
9151 E. Bell Rd., Ste. 101
Scottsdale, AZ 85260
The quality, fairness, and safety responsibilities of a karate competition clearly fall on the referee’s shoulders. The referee must be competent. However, the complete quality of a competition requires everyone to know the rules and protocols of the tournament. This includes the competitors, coaches, tournament staff, parents, and of course the referee corp. These monthly training sessions have been developed to improve the level of refereeing in our state and to assist in the educational level of those interested in knowing the rules.
